In America it seems that everyone under the age of 18 is either a fan of N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degree1 or perhaps another cute guy group. In Europe, there is one boy band that almost everyone seems to agree on2¡ªWestlife. You've obviously heard about the group Westlife. But, how much do you know about Westlife?

¡¡¡¡Westlife is an Irish boy band group who got their claim to fame3 performing as the opening act4 to a 1998 Backstreet Boys show in Dublin, Ireland. They are managed by Louis Walsh and Ronan Keating. Who are these two people, you may ask? Ronan Keating is the lead singer5 of the Irish pop group ¡°Boyzone¡± while Louis Walsh is the manager of Boyzone. Boyzone is a wildly popular pop group in Europe and Asia where they have scored numerous No.1 hits6. We are very familiar with their hit song ¡°No matter what¡±, a theme song7 of the film ¡°Notting Hill¡±8.

¡¡¡¡Westlife was originally9 composed of10 6 friends from Sligo, Ireland. Three eventually11 left the group, and Nicky and Bryan joined the group in their place. So the group has five members now including Shane, Kian, Mark. It was originally called IOU. They later renamed themselves Westside, but they had to change the name once they found out that several groups had laid claim to12 the name Westside (especially in the United States).

¡¡¡¡Westlife are well on their way to becoming international superstars.13 Many of their singles went straight to No. 1 on the UK's charts14¡ªright behind the Spice Girls15 and fellow Irish mates, B*Witched16. ¡°Swear It Again¡±, ¡°If I Let You Go¡±, ¡°Flying Without Wings¡±, ¡°Seasons in the Sun¡±, ¡°Fool Again¡± are perhaps the most recognized singles17 off of their hit, self-titled album18. But Westlife is bound to19 do it again¡ªas they work hard to become bigger and better.

¡¡¡¡In February 2002, Westlife scored their 10th UK No.1 with ¡°World of Our Own¡±.  So we can say, with the help of Boyzone's Ronan Keating's as well as their own efforts, Westlife has made more than a name for themselves20¡ªthey're on the brink of21 making music history. ¡°I'd like them to be the biggest band in the world,¡± Ronan said. ¡°it's taken a lot of hard work, but I think there's a lot of potential22 there!¡±
